The '800' Cookbook has arrived!

Back in the mists of time, when the word Covid meant something to only a handful of people, plans were drawn up to celebrate the 800th anniversary of St Mary’s Church, Pulborough and launch the 800 Appeal.
It was to be the focus of fund-raising efforts to finance repairs and the refurbishment of the church. Like the plans of so many, these have now been pushed into 2021 and beyond, but with one exception.
One of the churchwardens, Ann Kaiser, had the brainchild of a cookbook, featuring favourite recipes from the congregation and friends of the church.  Assisted by Toni Hayes, Ann set about gathering contributions from, amongst others, professional colleagues of her late husband, René.
The Rector, Rev Canon Paul Seaman, writes, “We are especially pleased to dedicate this book to the memory of René Kaiser who has been a friend of many people in this parish and will have an honoured place in the history of our village. Many will have enjoyed the fruits of his culinary skills when he and Ann owned ‘Stane Street Hollow’, the Swiss restaurant on Codmore Hill and recall his ability to give everything that extra bit of flavour!”
Indeed, some of René’s own recipes are featured in the book, alongside nearly fifty others.  With the printing costs generously sponsored by Comyn & James, Estate Agents of Lower Street, Pulborough, The St Mary’s Church Cookbook is now available to purchase.  Costing 800 pence it can be ordered from Ann Kaiser on 01798 872819, Toni Hayes on 873683 or Alyson Heath on 873795.
Fr Paul adds,”Although so much has had been postponed, this book is available now for you to try out the many recipes that have been collected together. These will then be ready for us to taste when we can meet again and our celebrations can really begin.”
